Durham Resident Named New Notre Dame-West Haven Football Coach

Longtime coach Tom Marcucci announced his retirement last week.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Notre Dame-West Haven didn’t have to look far for its new head coach, promoting offensive coordinator Joe DeCaprio to replace longtime coach Tom Marcucci, who announced his retirement last week.

Macrucci, who remains the school’s athletic director, announced the decision to promote DeCaprio at the football team’s end-of-season banquet on Sunday, Dec. 11.

DeCaprio got his start with Notre Dame as a volunteer coach in 2002 when his brother, John DeCaprio, was head coach and rose through the coaching ranks.

“First, I am honored and humbled to have been a member of the Notre Dame community these last 15 years,” Joe DeCaprio said in a statement released by the school. “To be named head football coach here is a dream come true and beyond belief to me. I can’t thank Coach Marcucci and the Notre Dame administration led by President Curis enough for this opportunity. I promise ND Nation I will work as hard as I can to continue our great football tradition.”

DeCaprio lives in Durham with his wife Dorothy and their twin daughters Emma and Kaleigh.
