Durham Volunteer Fire Company warned residents of a fire weather watch issued for the entire tri-state area, by the National Weather Service.
"This means that the potential for severe fire weather exists," Durham firefighters said. "Any deliberate outdoor burning should be postponed because of the potential for accidental fires to rapidly spread and to become very difficult for firefighters to control or contain."
The NWS stated that the fire weather watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. They wrote:
- Affected area... Entire tri-state region
- Winds...Northwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph
- Relative humidity... Mid- to upper-20s
- Timing...Tuesday afternoon into early evening
- Impacts... Rapid fire spread if ignition occurs
