Herbicide Application Scheduled for Middlefield's Lake Beseck

The application of Imazapyr will be done by All Habitat Services, LLC.

MIDDLEFIELD, CT — The herbicide Imazapyr is scheduled to be applied to Lake Beseck in Middlefield sometime in the first two week of October, according to town officials.

All Habitat Services, LLC, of Branford, will do the application sometime on either October 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13 or 14. The project is for "the purpose of Common Reed (Phragmites australis) control."

Signs will be posted before the application is set to begin, but officials issued the following advisory about the project:

"There is no direct water use restrictions associated with the Imazapyr application. However, in best practice, avoid use of the water for the following purposes on the day of treatment for swimming and other water-contact activities, drinking, fishing, livestock watering, and irrigation."
