New Details About Major Fire In Durham

The fire was reported Friday morning. Numerous agencies and towns assisted in battling the blaze.

DURHAM, CT — A barn was destroyed in a fire at 151 Maiden Lane in Durham, according to the Durham Volunteer Fire Company. At at 6:15AM the Fire Department was alerted by Valley Shore Emergency Communications about a reported barn fire in the area of 151 Maiden Lane.

Initially dispatched was Durham Fire, Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department, Killingworth Volunteer Fire Co., South Fire District Firefighters IAFF Local 3918, and South Fire District Middletown.

"Our first arriving officer reported a fully involved barn fire and requested additional tankers from Nomadfc & Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, North Madison also helped cover our town while we where fighting the fire," the Fire Department said on its social media page. "Westfield Fire Dept helped cover Middlefield as the majority of their firefighter where assisting Durham. The barn was a complete loss but thankfully no person or animal were injured in the blaze. As you can tell by the number of towns listed whenever there is a fire it is a huge team effort from our mutual aid partners and we can’t thank them enough!!! Also would like to thank Ahearn and Sons LLC for quickly sending an excavator to assist demolition of what was left of the structure. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Durham Fire Marshals Office."
