Medical Examiner: Bristol Man Died of Head Injuries, Drowning

A Bristol man whose body was recovered Sunday near Wadsworth Falls in Middlefield died from blunt force trauma to the head and asphyxiation by submersion, according to the Office of the Chief State's Medical Examiner.

Tomasz M. Skoczylas, 41, was pronounced dead at approximately 3 p.m. on August 4 after a hiker notified authorities of a body in the Coginchaug River.

Although investigators have not released any specific details surrounding Skoczylas' death, police initially reported that he'd fallen on some rocks near the bridge along Cherry Hill Road.

Police said Skoczylas was alone at the time of the accident. No foul play is suspected.
