MIDDLEFIELD, CT — Firefighters extinguished a residential fire Monday morning. According to fire officials, they received a call for a fire alarm. When Valley Shore arrived at the scene, they discovered a fire in the kitchen which was quickly put out.
Crews checked for extension and removed all the smoke from the home, as well as located a pet cat who was hiding. Departments from Durham, Westfield, and Killingworth assisted in the emergency.
No one was injured.

"This is just another example of how smoke detectors, in conjunction with a home fire alarm system, helped notify emergency responders quickly and limit fire spread, reducing further damage," the fire department noted on its Facebook page.
