Middlefield Residents Honored by Middletown Rotary Club

Two local residents were honored at the Middletown Rotary Club's 2013 Awards Ceremony which was held May 22 at the Inn at Middletown.

Frank Sumpter of Middlefield received one of three Paul Harris Community Service Fellowship Awards. Sumpter has served as President and CEO of the Middlesex YMCA for 23 years and will be retiring May 31.

He's been an active leader in the community including past-president of the Middletown Rotary Club in 2004-2005 and served on the board of the Middlesex United Way. This is his second Paul Harris Award, a recognition presented to community members and Rotarians who have made a significant contribution and difference in the community.

Service Above Self Student Scholarship Awards were presented to five high school seniors including Kaylee Powers of Middlefield who will be graduating from Coginchaug Regional High School next month.

In addition to requiring a 3.0 GPA or higher, the scholarship recipients were chosen based on Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”, rewarding students that showed extraordinary volunteer service.
