Victim Identified In Fatal East Hampton Motorcycle Crash: UPDATE
The motorcycle is reported to have struck a Portland police vehicle, state police said.
EAST HAMPTON, CT — State police said one person has died following a crash early Thursday morning in East Hampton. The incident occurred around 1 a.m.
According to a news release, state police said Evan J. Basso, 27, of East Hampton was traveling eastbound on Route 66 when his motorcycle struck the rear of a Portland police cruiser that was in the process of making a left turn onto Depot Hill Road.
Basso was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision, state police said. He was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending an autopsy.

At the request of the East Hampton Police Department and the Middletown State's Attorney Office, state police were called upon to assume the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked asked to contact state police at 203-630-8079 or email Mark.DiCocco@ct.gov.
