East Hampton, Portland Weather: 'Cooling' Trend on Tap This Week

Love it or hate it, the hot-and-humid Fourth of July weekend was a scorching reminder of all that we love about summer: barbecues, beaches, boats and backyard picnics.

What’s in store for us this week? According to the National Weather Service, a cooling trend is in the offing (although daytime highs will still be in the high-80s), with a chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the beginning of the week.

On Monday, there’s a 60 percent chance of heavy rain, and the rest of the week will see a mixture of sun and clouds with an ever-present chance of thunderstorms.

Good news though: While it’ll still be humid this week, it won’t be as humid as last week. And certainly not as hot.

Here’s the long-range forecast through Wednesday from the National Weather Service: 

Monday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Southwest wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
