Folk and Blues Concerts, a 4H Fair and Exploring the Cobalt Mine This Week in Town

This week in East Hampton and Portland there's a folk/blues concert, a walk through a historic mine, and a Catch-22 book discussion.

Film Night at the East Hampton Library: View an unforgettable and terrifying account of a family caught, with tens of thousands of strangers, in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time, 2004's devastating tsuname in Southeast Asia. Ewan Mcgregor and Naomi Watts star. Library staff member Phil Carr serves as movie tour guide and moderator for this event on Tuesday.
Portland Library Book Club Discusses Catch-22: This Thursday at 6:30 p.m. the Portland Library Book Club will host a discussion of Joseph Heller's famous novel, Catch-22. Books are available, and no reservations are necessary.
Gail Wade Performing in the Gazebo Music Series: Gail Wade will perform as part of The Joseph N. Goff House Gazebo Music Series on Thursday from 6:30-8:30 pm. The concert will be held at the Gazebo on Center School grounds, and in case of rain, will take place inside The Congregational Church of East Hampton. A strong guitarist and clawhammer banjo player with a rich and soulful voice, Gail performs fresh renditions of folk, blues, old-time, bluegrass and swing favorites.
The New Haven & Middlesex County 4H Fair in Durham: Looking for affordable family fun? Come to the New Haven & Middlesex County 4-H Fair at the fairgrounds in Durham. The fair is open Friday from 5:00pm-10:00pm, Saturday from 8:00am-10:00pm and Sunday from 8:00am-4:00pm.
Explore Cobalt Mine with the East Hampton Parks & Rec Department:  The East Hampton Parks and Recreation Dept. will sponsor a hike in Cobalt and explore the old cobalt mine and the site of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Jenkins on Gadpouch Rd. on Sunday at 10 am. The hike is organized by the Chatham Historical Society and is part of the “Explore East Hampton” monthly series program.
