14 Cows Killed In Barn Fire In East Hampton: Report

The single digit temperature made battling the blaze difficult, fire officials said.

EAST HAMPTON, CT — Fire officials said 14 dairy cows were killed in a barn fire Thursday morning on Flanders Road in East Hampton, according to media reports. The barn was destroyed as a result of the fire, officials said.

According to the Middletown Press, the single digit temperature made battling the blaze difficult, and firefighters had to cut through ice on a pond to get water. A first reponder told the paper the barn was "a total loss." (To sign up for East Hampton and Portland breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
