Sue Martucci President of Trees of Honor Memorial, Mayor Dan Drew and Mr. Curt Deane announced plans to erect a bronze sculpture tribute this spring to Sergeant Stubby, America’s most famous war dog at the CT Trees of Honor Memorial in Veterans Park on Friday March 24th.
Mr. Deane is the grandson of Private Conroy who found the stray mixed breed Stubby while training near the Yale campus with the 102nd Regiment of the 26th Yankee Division prior to their unit being shipped off to France at the start of our country’s entry into WWI.

It has been the Deane family wish to find the appropriate place to erect a tribute to their beloved dog and we are honored and excited that the CT Trees of Honor Memorial will be Stubby’s forever home come this spring! He will be among other CT heroes.
This announcement ties in with the national release of the animated movie Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero set to premier in New Haven, CT on April 8th that is produced by Fun Academy Motion Pictures. Dozens of articles have been written about Stubby as well as books; most notably an adult and children’s version by author Ann Bausum whom Mr. Deane and his family have close ties with.
