ELLINGTON, CT — In anticipation of record-breaking numbers of absentee ballots being cast in this year's Presidential primaries due to the coronavirus pandemic, a special ballot box will soon be installed in the town hall parking lot, between Main and Maple streets.

Absentee ballot applications are being mailed to every registered Democrat and Republican elector in town, via a printing mail house hired by the Secretary of the State’s Office. Anyone choosing to vote by absentee ballot must fill out the application and return it to the Ellington Town Clerk via mail or via the ballot box. The Town Clerk’s Office will process the application, and ballots will be mailed via the same printing mail house.

Voters will return their ballots via mail or via the ballot box. The Town Clerk will lock ballots safely in a vault, until the time the Registrars of Voters and the absentee ballot moderator process them using state statute protocols.

The ballot box is scheduled to be installed shortly. In the event it is not installed by the time a resident wishes to drop off an application, it may be safely placed in the drop box in front of town hall.

Residents wishing to vote in person may do so at their polling location on Aug. 11, between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.
