Apple Festival At Ellington Farmers' Market

Enjoy apple crisp for breakfast, learn how apple cider is made, shop 7 varieties of locally grown apples and loads of apple products

(Dianne Trueb)

There is nothing better than a crisp juicy Connecticut apple and the Ellington Farmers' Market will have plenty of them at the market's Apple Festival Saturday September 28th from 9-12 in Arbor Park. Macoun, Cortland, Gala, Fuji, Empire, Macintosh and Liberty, all locally grown and delicious will be available. LuAnn's Bakery's apple crisp, a perfect breakfast treat, will be served. Kids can crank the grinder handle and learn how apple cider is made at a cider pressing demonstration. Along with many kinds of juicy crisp apples, you'll find lots of apple products including apple cider, apple pies, caramel apple cupcakes, apple breads, apple pastries, apple butter, apple jams, apple chutney and even apple based hot sauce. You can also learn how to make a succulent topped pumpkin, perfect for a fall centerpiece. Pick up a pumpkin from Joe's Veggies and head over to the big gazebo where Cathy Testa will teach you how to make this gorgeous fall decoration. The weather is going to be wonderful once again to come out and enjoy a beautiful early fall morning at the market. Musical entertainment will be provided by guitarist Glenn Roth
