Assistant Superintendent Of Schools Hired In Ellington
Oliver Barton comes to Ellington with considerable administrative experience, most recently with the Hartford Public Schools.

ELLINGTON, CT — An experienced administrator who last worked in the Hartford public school system has been hired in Ellington as its new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
Oliver Barton has experience in both suburban and urban school districts, serving as principal of
Old Saybrook High School and an associate superintendent, supervising preK-12 schools for the
Hartford Public Schools. Early in his career, he taught science and was an executive director of
an environmental themed high school in New Haven.
Barton completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Yale University in economics and environmental studies, and received his Superintendent’s certification through the University
of Connecticut’s Educational Leadership Program. He has been the recipient of many accolades during his career, including the Yale University Elm-Ivy Award and the Environmental Administrator of the Year recognition.

Veteran Board of Education member Kris Picard-Wambolt is optimistic Barton will effectively lead the programming centered around a newly-created grades five and six STEM enrichment teacher and an elementary talented and gifted teacher.
"I am thrilled to be joining the Ellington school district to support and guide the great work schools are doing to grow exceptional leaders who are courageous, reflective, and contributing citizens of the world," Barton said. "I am honored to have been selected for this role and am eager to learn about the schools and programs in depth as we work together to plan for the 2021-22 school year and beyond."

Superintendent of Schools Scott Nicol said, "As a former executive director of the Hartford Public Schools, I had the privilege of working with Oliver. Most importantly, he is a good and honorable man that values families, understanding the great responsibility educators have to ensure parents trust sending their children to school."
Barton, a Branford resident, will begin his duties in Ellington July 19.
