Community Rallies Around Injured Somers Firefighter
A GoFundMe account has been launched on behalf of Al Baker and his family.

The Somers community is rallying around 13-year career firefighter Al Baker, who was injured in an off-duty accident and will be out of work for a minimum of six months, according to the GoFundMe page that was launched on his behalf.
In addition to the GoFundMe account, the Somers Fire Department is hosting a Benefit for Al Baker on Saturday, March 28 from 8-12 p.m. at Joanna’s Restaurant, 145 Main St. in Somers. Cost is a $10 donation at the door.
Baker has already undergone one surgery and needs multiple surgeries in the near future, according to Bob Wheeler, who created the GoFundMe page.

Wheeler also wrote the following on the page:
“With this being said, the financial burden placed on Al, his wife Jen, and their three daughters is too much to undertake without some help. Al has helped and touched many people throughout his life and career. It’s time for us to step up and help a brother in need. Please show your support and donate to the “Al Baker Fund”. Thank you in advance for helping take care of a man who has dedicated his life to taking care of others.”
