CT Player Ties For Medalist Honors At Travelers Pre-Qualifier
A total of 19 players, including four from Connecticut, advanced into Monday's Travelers Championship open qualifier Thursday in Ellington.

ELLINGTON, CT — For the second straight day, golfers from throughout the region competed at Ellington Ridge Country Club Thursday in an attempt to earn a spot in Monday's open qualifier for the PGA TOUR's Travelers Championship. And for the second straight day, a handful of players from Connecticut earned their way into the open qualifying field by posting scores of 2-under par 70 or better.
Brian Carlson of Madison posted a bogey-free round of 6-under 66, including an eagle and four birdies, to tie for medalist honors with Francesco Ruffino of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. and amateur Davis Chatfield of Attleboro, Mass. Ruffino and Chatfield each recorded eight birdies and two bogies over the 6,716 yard layout.
A total of 19 players earned spots in Monday's open qualifier, joining the 21 who qualified in a similar event at Ellington Ridge Wednesday. Besides Carlson, Thursday qualifiers from Connecticut included amateurs Chris Fosdick of Middlefield (69) and Jack Buccigross of South Windsor (70), as well as Fletcher Babcock of Danielson (70).

Monday's event will determine the final two spots in the Travelers Championship, slated for June 25-28 at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. Total purse is $7.4 million, with $1.332 million awarded to the tournament winner. Chez Reavie is the defending champion.
