Edible Animal Contest and Glastonbury Ukulele Band at Ellington Farmers' Market Sat. Aug. 8th

Come sing along with Dr. Uke and the Glastonbury Ukulele Band as you browse the Edible Animal Contest at the Ellington Farmers' Market.

The Ellington Farmers’ Market will host an Edible Animal Contest on Saturday Aug. 8th from 9-12. Participants can bring their edible animal creations to Arbor Park at 9:00 to be entered in the contest. Market customers will vote for their favorites throughout the morning with the winners being announced at 12:00. Gift certificates to the market will be awarded to the top three entries. Scan your gardens, vegetable stands and cupboards and let your imaginations run wild!

Dr. Uke and the Glastonbury Ukulele Band will be providing the musical entertainment. This popular group, led by Dr. Jim Rosokoff (AKA “Dr. Uke”), a retired Glastonbury dermatologist, play popular songs from many eras. Audiences have enjoyed singing along to typical ukulele fare like “You Are My Sunshine” and “Five Foot Two” and other songs are less readily associated with the ukulele, such as “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes,” “Why Do Fools Fall In Love,” and “Who Put the Bomp (in the Bomp-Ba-Bomp-Ba-Bomp).” Many genres of music are “on the table” for the band, including jazz, folk, rock, Elvis, Beatles, show tunes, and even Yiddish songs. Bring a chair to sit under the trees and sing along with this lively group.

A complete market schedule, vendors and weekly entertainment along with a link to receive the market’s newsletter can be found on their website
