"It has been an absolute pleasure serving the students, families, and staff in Ellington," Hendrickson said in a written statement. "It was amazing to be part of such a strong, dynamic, professional and caring team as we navigated the most challenging time in public education. I have no doubt that my experience in Ellington has prepared me for success in my next role in Salem."

Ellington Board of Education vice chair Michael Young said, "As chair of the Board of Education’s Curriculum Committee, I was privileged to work with Brian Hendrickson in his efforts to guide the growth of our schools and accomplish data-driven solutions and innovations to school operations. While helping us to meet the stresses of an unprecedented emergency response to a pandemic, Brian’s steady hand on the tiller of continuous improvements enabled Ellington schools to upgrade its enrichment offerings, align its elementary curriculum, and implement new data systems to support teacher and parent dashboards to transparent classrooms. We will continue to value Brian as a scholar and colleague and wish him well, even as we thank him for his service to our town."
