Ellington Farmers’ Market Helping Low Income Families

The Ellington Farmers' Market helps low income families, seniors, and women with WIC benefits to obtain locally sourced healthy foods.

The Ellington Farmers’ Market continues to help low income families, seniors, and women with WIC benefits to obtain locally sourced healthy foods at the market each Saturday in several ways.

The market matches up to $20 per week in SNAP benefits per EBT card. Up to $20 can be deducted from the card balance and $40 in tokens will be given to shop the market.

In addition, the market will match all Senior and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers distributed by the CT Department of Agriculture. Low income seniors should contact their local senior centers or human services departments to learn how to obtain the vouchers. The WIC vouchers are being mailed to WIC recipients. Please contact your local WIC office if you have not received your vouchers. Customers should bring their vouchers to the market booth to obtain additional coupons to shop the market.

The first two months of the market have seen a doubling of matching SNAP distributions compared to last year and funds are needed to insure the continuation through the 2020 season.
