Ellington Farmers' Market Helping Low Income Families

Matching SNAP, Senior and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program voucher programs help low income families obtain healthy foods at the market.

The Ellington Farmers' Market is helping low income families, seniors, and women with children to obtain healthy local foods at the market each Saturday morning from 9-12 in Arbor Park, Main St. Ellington. SNAP benefits are doubled up to $20 per week for each EBT card. The market is also matching the Senior and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers distributed by the CT Department of Agriculture.

Customers simply bring their EBT card and Nutrition Program vouchers to the market booth where additional coupons will be given to shop the market.

Last year approximately $11,000 was distributed to low income persons through all programs and the market is on track to double the amount this season. Funds are raised through the Market Partner Program in which local businesses contribute, through individual contributions and fund raising activities. Donations to the program can be made on line or via mail to:Ellington Farmers Market, 105 Pinnacle Rd, Ellington CT 06029
