Ellington Farmers’ Market Helps Ensure Food Security
Over $24,000 was distributed so far to low income families and seniors through matching programs. Matching SNAP continues at winter markets

The Ellington Farmers’ Market’s matching programs to ensure food security for low-income persons more than doubled distributions during the first 10 months of the market compared with the entire 2019 season.
Over $24,000 was distributed in the form of matching SNAP and Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers for low income seniors, women receiving WIC benefits and SNAP recipients.
The Ellington Farmers’ Market is a non-profit 501c3 organization and depends mainly on donations from local businesses through their Market Partner program and individual donations.

“The support of the community during this tough time has been incredible and the gratitude of people receiving the extra help to purchase healthy foods is remarkable and rewarding to see” according to Dianne Trueb, Market Master.
The Department of Agriculture has extended the time to redeem SFMNP and WIC vouchers. The final date to double these coupons at the Ellington Farmers’ Market is Nov. 21st, at the first winter market which will be held at the Ellington High School from 9-11am.

SNAP will continue to be doubled at all winter markets which will take place every other week through March 20th.
