Ellington HS Student Honored With College Scholarship
Erin Schirra is one of five HS graduating Connecticut students awarded a Joe Lieberman Connecticut Scholarship.
The Joe Lieberman Connecticut Scholarship Fund announced Friday that Erin Schirra, who graduated Ellington High School this year, will receive one of five $1,500 college scholarships, The Hartford Courant reports.Schirra will attend Quinnipiac University in the fall.
This is the second year that The Joe Lieberman Connecticut Scholarship Fund has awarded scholarships to Connecticut students preparing to start college or going into their sophomore year. Applicants were judged on their outstanding leadership potential and record of community service.
"Higher education can provide the foundation for greater opportunity and making a difference in local communities and our nation. I am grateful to have the chance to support these students as they advance in their academic studies," said Sen. Lieberman at a news conference announcing the new and renewed recipients, according to The Hartford Courant.

Schirra was Elllington’s Homecoming Queen and was recently also crowned Connecticut's Homecoming Queen and will represent Connecticut at the Nationals in Memphis, TN.
