ELLINGTON, CT — With a heat advisory in effect for Tolland County until 8 p.m. Monday, coupled with the continued mask mandate required at Connecticut sch0ols by Gov. Ned Lamont, Ellington school officials have decided to make Monday and Tuesday early release days.

High temperatures are expected to reach 94 on Monday, with a heat index of 96, according to the National Weather Service.

"This decision is in the best health interests of our staff and students," Superintendent of Schools Scott Nciol wrote in a message to the Ellington community. "For the remainder of the school year, staff and students are encouraged to take frequent extended and creative mask breaks using sound judgment. Of course, as previously communicated, masks are optional when outside."
