Ellington, Somers College Students Earn More Honors And Awards

College students from Ellington and Somers are thriving in their academic accomplishments.

ELLINGTON/SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Eastern Connecticut State University's Theatre Program presented its second production of the year, "Blood at the Root," for two weekends between March 19 and March 28. Among the students who made the production possible was sophomore Samuel Oravits of Ellington, who majors in Theatre. Oravits served as a light board operator and production electrician.

Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport IA

  • Kiara Stone of Ellington has been named to the fall 2020 trimester Dean's List at Palmer College of Chiropractic's main campus in Davenport, Iowa.

University of Rhode Island, Kingston RI

  • The University of Rhode Island is pleased a number of local students earned spots on the fall 2020 Dean's List. They are Samantha Alaimo of Somers, Jared Buffington of Ellington, Melody Crane of Ellington, Zak Dougherty of Ellington, Sydney Graham of Somers, Chris Hoover of Ellington, Marleena Kocot of Somers, Johnny Pasini of Ellington, Karishma Patel of Somers, Delani Raina of Somers, Emily Renzoni of Somers, Jenna Selochan of Ellington, James Sternat of Ellington, Emily Walker of Ellington and Jeannette Zanazanian of Somers. To be included on the Dean's List, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades during a semester and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 or more credits for letter grades earning at least a 3.30 quality point average.

  • The following students from Ellington and Somers earned a place on Western New England University's distinguished President's List for the fall 2020 semester. They are Preston Aldrich, of Ellington, working toward a BSE in Mechanical Engineering; Erin Busky, of Ellington, working toward a BSBA in Management & Leadership; Colin Garrow, of Ellington, working toward a degree in Engineering; Morgan Holden, of Ellington, working toward a BA in Law & Society; Alan Blais, of Somers, working toward a BS in Criminal Justice; and Zachary Vargo, of Somers, working toward a BA in Political Science. To qualify for the President's List, students must achieve a GPA of 3.80 or higher.
  • Eight students from Ellington and Somers made Western New England University's distinguished Dean's List for fall 2020. They are Owen Feindel, of Ellington, working toward a degree in Engineering; Jack Purnhagen, of Ellington, working toward a BA in History; Noah Welti, of Ellington, working toward a BSBA in Management & Leadership; Chris Allen, of Somers, working toward a BSBA in Sport Management; Emma Archambault, of Somers, working toward a BSBA in Accounting; Peter Garlick, of Somers, working toward a BSBA in Accounting; Samantha Hearn, of Somers, working toward a BSBA in Marketing Communication/Advertising; and Juliana Smith, of Somers, working toward a BS in Health Studies. To qualify for the Dean's List, students must achieve a GPA of 3.30 or higher.
  • Over 30 students from the Western New England University College of Business were welcomed into Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society in a virtual induction ceremony held on March 5. Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes the best and brightest members of the nation's first-year college students. The mission of the Society is to encourage superior academic achievement, to promote intelligent living and a high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals in society. Students in Alpha Lambda Delta must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 after their first semester of full-time enrollment. Local honorees were Emma Archambault of Somers, working toward a BSBA in Accounting, and Noah Welti of Ellington, working toward a BSBA in Management & Leadership. Alpha Lambda Delta first-year honor society was founded in 1924 at the University of Illinois and has over 280 chapters in the United States.
