Ellington, Somers Full Coronavirus Vaccination, Case Rates
Vaccine demand has waned in Connecticut. Here is how many Ellington and Somers residents are vaccinated.
ELLINGTON/SOMERS, CT — Coronavirus vaccine demanded has waned in recent weeks for Connecticut residents, but case rates are beginning to drop now that more than two-thirds of the adult population is vaccinated.
Seniors have been especially keen to get the vaccine; about nine out of every 10 residents 65 and older has received at least one dose, according to the state Department of Public Health.
In Ellington, 6,114 residents have been fully vaccinated as of April 28, which is about 37 percent of the population — in total 52 percent of the town population has received at least one dose, according to DPH.

In Somers, 3,983 residents have been fully vaccinated as of April 28, which is about 37 percent of the population — in total 47 percent of the town population has received at least one dose, according to DPH.

Connecticut’s infection rate is starting to drop again after being on the rise for about a month. There were 22.1 average daily cases per 100,000 population between April 11 and 24. The rate was above 30 just a couple of weeks ago.
Ellington recorded 8 new coronavirus cases between April 21 and 28 according to DPH’s preliminary data. There have been 984 cases recorded since the pandemic began and 12 coronavirus deaths.
Ellington had 17.5 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 11 and 24 and a positive test rate of 4.60 percent. There were 16.2 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period.
Somers recorded 10 new coronavirus cases between April 21 and 28 according to DPH’s preliminary data. There have been 942 cases recorded since the pandemic began and 13 coronavirus deaths.
Somers had 9.9 average daily cases per 100,000 residents between April 11 and 24 and a positive test rate of 1.70 percent. There were 9.9 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period.
It’s important to note that a relatively small number of cases can have a big effect on the case rate, especially in smaller towns.
