On March 25, 1895, six ladies met for their mutual improvement, forming a society known as the Ladies Literary Club. This group eventually became the Ellington Women’s Club.

One year later the ladies began recommending books for public school use & sponsored public lectures. Over the 125 years the Club has supported scholarship funds to a variety of high schools & started its first annual Ellington Women’s Club Scholarship in 2019.

The Ellington Women’s Club continued to expand its interests through local improvement projects, sales of World War II War Bonds, planting & tending the Town of Ellington’s War Memorial, and supporting our Veterans throughout the years.

In its 125 years in the community, the Club has participated in many civic projects which improved the town. As Ellington worked to assist in building schools and the library and to improve opportunities for its youth, the support of the Ellington Women’s Club was keenly felt.

Currently, the Club continues to contribute financially to many charitable and community organizations, especially the Ellington food pantries. In the past ten years, the Club has donated over 7,000 lbs. of food and $900 in cash and gift cards. Also, in the past decade, the ladies have participated in the Town of Ellington’s Adopted-A-Child/Senior program during the holiday season.

During the month of March, the Club holds an annual community collection event for Julie’s Safe House based out of The Network–Against Domestic Abuse. The local community has been extremely generous for the past two years our event has been the largest collection for Julie's Safe House.

As we celebrate our 125th Anniversary year our goal is to reflect upon our past and to continue our active role in our community today and onward. We would like to thank all the women who have passed through the Club numbers running from 6 women up to 100 women for their love and dedication to Ellington and nearby towns. We welcome all women to our club meetings. Come learn more about us by checking us out on Facebook or at our website at www.ellingtonctwomensclub.com.
