Fake Bail Reps Scam Somers Senior Out of $12,000: State Police

A fake bail tale scammed a Somers senior out of thousands, state police said.

SOMERS, CT — Thieves masquerading as a bond representative from a legal firm scammed a senior citizen from Somers out of $12,000, state police said.

The theft took place at about 1 p.m. Friday, state police said. The elderly man was approached by the theives at his residence, according to state police. They convinced the man they were couriers from a legal firm and needed cash to post a bond to get a relative out of jail, according to a report.

The man provided them with the cash and the scammers drove off, according to a report.

The scammers used a car descibed as a black Nissan or Toyota that is about 10 years old. One of the scammers is being dscribed as a black female about 30 years old who was wearing a beige coat and beige hat, according to a report.

State police and the Somers Senior Center staff are asking for help from any witnesses, including anyone who may have security video in the area. Anyone with information can call the Somers Resident State Trooper's Office at 860-749-4955.
