Fun Family Activities Scheduled At The Ellington Farmers Market

The Ellington Farmers Market has a great lineup of activities for the entire family this summer. beginning with Bugs and Bees Day on July 10th. Dr. Bugman will present a hands-on learning experience like no other using a variety of exotic bugs, reptiles, and amphibians. Enjoy the marvels of a living beehive provided by beekeeper David Pease, who will be on hand to answer questions on beekeeping and offer samples of local raw honey.

A Blueberry Festival will be held on Saturday July 17th. Fresh blueberry shortcake by LuAnn’s Bakery, local freshly picked blueberries, blueberry jams and a variety of blueberry baked goods

The annual Edible Animal Contest will be held July 31st. Bring your creations, made from fresh produce and any other edible item to the market at 9:00. Customers will vote on their favorites. Prizes will be awarded to the top three.

Future farmers and entrepreneurs ages 17 and under are invited to participate in Youth Vendor Day on August 7th. Youth MUST apply online to participate.

Peaches will be the main attraction at the Ellington Farmers Market on August 14th at the Peach Festival where luscious peach shortcake will be served and loads of tree ripened peaches plus peach products will be available.

The popular and hilarious Zucchini 500 Drag race takes place on August 21st. The track is 6 inches wide with 2-inch sides. Strap a zucchini to some wheels, decorate it, and bring it to the market by 9:45 am for a 10:00 start. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers and the car that dons the most produce.
