Gerry’s Donuts is Back

Gerry’s Donuts will have a grand re-opening on Thursday, July 8 and Friday, July 9 with free donuts for all. The Ellington institution closed its doors in May and will reopen with updated equipment and newly trained staff at 6:00 a.m.

“We are so grateful for the love and support we’ve received from the community,” says Gerry’s wife, Kelsey Cote. “Every day we’ve been getting messages from loyal customers asking when we’ll be back. The free donuts are a small gesture of gratitude from us to say thank you for all their support.”

An outbreak of an intestinal bug closed the shop in May. Since then, the shop’s owners have updated the kitchen and retrained staff. As a result, they have received certification to reopen from the North Central District Health District and the Department of Health.

Gerry Cote opened his bakery at 180 Windsorville Rd in Ellington in 1983 and it quickly became a community favorite. Famous for their Boston Cream, Chocolate Honey Dip and Sugar Raised donuts, locals often jumped in line when the shop opened at 6:00 a.m. to make sure they got their favorites. Those lines often stretched around the building

“We can’t wait to see all our friends in the community again and to get back to serving up the treats they’ve been begging us for. It’s going to be an emotional and wonderful day,” says Cote.

Gerry’s Donuts offers pastries, bagels, cookies, muffins and coffee from their bakery at 180 Windsorville Rd, Ellington. They are open from 6:00 a.m. to noon every day. All items are baked in-house and served fresh daily. Dine in and take-out available.
