Great Feats Accomplished By Ellington, Somers College Students

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, some Ellington and Somers college students have continued to shine in their academic ventures.

ELLINGTON/SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Assumption University, Worcester MA

  • The Assumption University Office of Student Activities has announced that Lauren Masamery, of Somers, is currently serving as President of the Pinky Swear Pack for the 2020-21 academic year. The mission of the Pinky Swear Pack is to raise awareness for pediatric cancer. The group aims to fundraise as well as participate in events to provide financial and emotional relief for children and families battling cancer.
  • Assumption University has announced those students named to the University's Dean's List for the fall 2020 semester. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 for a five-class, 15-credit semester to be included on the prestigious list, which is announced at the completion of the fall and spring semesters. Due to the pandemic, the fall semester was divided into two accelerated seven-week terms. Local honorees are Lauren Masamery of Somers, Class of 2021; Caroline Casey of Ellington, Class of 2022; and Nora Birmingham of Ellington, Class of 2024.

Clarkson University, Potsdam NY

  • Karen Agro and Hayden Barrett, both of Somers, have been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2020 semester at Clarkson University: Agro is a junior majoring in environmental engineering, while Barrett is a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering. Dean's List students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and also carry at least 14 credit hours.

Curry College, Milton MA

  • Curry College congratulates roughly 1,000 students, including three from Ellington and one from Somers, who were named to the fall 2020 Dean's List. To earn a place on the list, full-time undergraduate students - those who carry 12 or more graded credits per semester - must earn a 3.3 grade-point-average (GPA) or higher. Local honorees are Jessica Allard of Somers, and Katie Bartlett, Hannah Mozzer and Zachary Mozzer, all of Ellington.

Nichols College, Dudley MA

  • Many hard-working students at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass., have achieved Dean's List or President's List honors during the fall 2020 semester. The Dean's List and President's List give recognition to those students who achieve high grades during a single semester. In order to be included on the Dean's List, a student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for at least 12 undergraduate credit-hours and must have received no grades below B- during the semester. Students whose semester grade point average is 3.85 or higher for at least 12 undergraduate credit-hours and no grades below B- receive President's List honors. Leanne Angeloni of Ellington achieved President's List honors, while Jonathan Conte of Ellington and Andrew Skowronek of Somers achieved Dean's List honors.

Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester NH

  • Colin Holmes of Ellington has been named to Southern New Hampshire University's fall 2020 President's List. Eligibility for the President's List requires that a student accumulate an academic grade point average (GPA) of 3.7-4.0 and earn 12 credits for the semester.

University of Mississippi, Oxford MS

  • Natalie Jo Sullivan, of Ellington, was recently named to the University of Mississippi's fall 2020 Honor Roll lists. Sullivan was named to the Dean's Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.50-3.74. In order to be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester.

University of Nebraska, Lincoln NE

  • Justin Talbot of Somers is among 196 students who have earned recognition for their academic excellence from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's College of Business. The college recently recognized the students for their academic performance during the 2019-20 school year with the Clifford M. Hicks, LeRossignol and William Gold scholar awards. Talbot, an actuarial science major, earned the James E. LeRossignol Scholar Award.

University of Tampa, Tampa FL

  • Allison Casciano, of Somers, graduated from the University of Tampa on Saturday, Dec. 5. Casciano graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

University of Utah, Salt Lake City UT

  • Aidan Case, of Somers, was named to the University of Utah's fall 2020 Dean's List. Case's major is listed as Pre Computer Engineering BS. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher in at least 12 graded credit hours during any one term.
