ELLINGTON, CT — OK ... can people jumping from a plane at 13,000 feet over north-central Connecticut possibly be hidden? Hear us out this week because one first must find the Connecticut Parachutists skydiving club before jumping.

The club is tucked down a hill on a curve off Route 83 adjacent to the Ellington Airport, which is also hidden by the way. Small signs slightly larger than a Monopoly board square mark both locations.

The Connecticut Parachutists skydiving club was established in 1962 and moved to the Ellington Airport in 1970. It is one of the oldest existing parachute clubs in the country.

Its mission is simple:

  1. To have fun jumping from airplanes
  2. Jumping from airplanes for fun
  3. If you're confused please see mission statement No. 1

The club features its own twin-engine aircraft. It's a not-for profit-club, so the focus is on promoting the sport of skydiving, not making big profits. All of the fees are invested back into the facility in the way of modern gear and training.

Most of the club's Instructors have thousands of skydives on their backs and have been jumping and training for many years.
