'I Love My Farmers Market Celebration' Continues in Ellington, Somers

The American Farmland Trust asks residents to help a family farmer by committing to spend $10 at the Ellington and Somers Farmers Markets this week.

As the I Love My Farmers Market Celebration continues, residents are encouraged to pledge to the Ellington Farmers Market and Somers Farmers Market for a spot on the “100 Most Celebrated Farmers Markets” leaderboard.

The Top 3 Most Celebrated Farmers Markets in Connecticut - as of Monday morning - are the Bozrah Farmers Market, with $1,460 in pledges, the Coventry Regional Farmers Market, with $380 promised and Cityseed Farmers Market in New Haven with $300 pledged.

"Pledging to spend $10 at your local farmers market shows your support for the farmers and ranchers who support you," said Susan Sink, vice president of development and external affairs at American Farmland Trust.

The celebration hopes to collect $1 million in pledges, according to a news release.

Pledge your support and join locals in Ellington every Saturday this summer from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Arbor Park, and in Somers every Saturday this season from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the corner of Main Street and Battle Street.

Pledging closes at midnight on Sept. 9.
