Outstanding Achievements By Ellington, Somers College Students

ELLINGTON/SOMERS, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

James Madison University, Harrisonburg VA

• Ellington resident Sloan Sullivan has been named to the dean's list at James Madison University for the fall 2020 semester. Students who earn dean's list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a GPA of between 3.5 and 3.899. Sullivan is a finance major.

Lasell University, Newton MA

• Lisa Pare, a Lasell University student from Ellington, received professional badges from the Harvard Agile Teacher Lab for their success in using equitable academic discussions in virtual classrooms. Pare earned the following badges: Share Relevance Badge, Learn Relevance Badge, Adjust Equity Badge, Share Equity Badge. Participation in the program was part of an effort to provide Lasell University students who are studying education with the opportunity to continue practicum-style teaching practice via coached, simulated environments during the pandemic.

Ohio University, Athens OH

• Ohio University Scripps College of Communication student Olivia Dutkewych from Ellington has been named to Ohio's fall 2020 Dean's List. More than 8,400 students qualified for the fall semester 2020 Dean's List at Ohio University, including main and regional campuses.

Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester NY

• Three local residents made the Dean's List at Rochester Institute of Technology for the 2020 fall semester. They are Alex Slotter of Ellington, imaging science; Janine Bushey of Somers, graphic design; and Jared Cranna of Somers, mechanical engineering. Undergraduate students are eligible for Dean's List if their GPA is greater than or equal to 3.40 for nine credit hours of traditionally graded coursework; they do not have any grades of "Incomplete," NE, D, or F; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

University of Saint Joseph, West Hartford CT

• Morgan Beebe of Ellington was named to the University of Saint Joseph Dean’s List for the fall 2020 semester. Students who are awarded this academic achievement have earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher for the semester, with no grade lower than a “B.”

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

• Two students from Ellington and one from Somers made the fall 2020 Dean's List at WPI: Samantha Curtis of Ellington, class of 2024, majoring in society, technology & policy; Reily Siegel of Ellington, class of 2023, majoring in computer science; and Spencer Whitford of Somers, class of 2024, majoring in biomedical engineering. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.
