Picture Somers - Then And Now
An old photograph and brief story from Somers history, and how that site appears today.

SOMERS, CT — For the first time in several weeks, we return to the amazing photo book, Images of America: Somers, compiled in 2001 by Jeanne Kenyon DeBell for the Somers Historical Society. On page 83 is a picture of Fred Field's garage, taken just over a century ago in 1920.
The building was constructed in 1914 on the site of what is now 62 South Road, and the photo shows Field at the pump, with his son Chester (that's right, Chester Field) near the car.
A number of small businesses have inhabited the property in the past 100 years. According to town land records, it has been owned by Bruce and Judy Cox since late 1985.

Several small shops occupy the site today, including Margaret's Country Shoppe, You've Got It Made and Foxglove Antiques. Here is a more contemporary view from Oct. 2020, taken by yours truly.
