Plans Underway To Hold Ellington Farmers' Market At High School

Guidelines and procedures are in place to provide a safe, outdoor shopping environment and to support local economy; volunteers needed.

(Dianne Trueb)

The Ellington Farmers’ Market will be opening for the season on Saturday May 9th from 9-12 at the Ellington High School. The change in venue from Arbor park will enable the market organizers to create a safe environment for both customers and vendors by allowing better visualization of the entire market and controlling the traffic pattern. Farmers’ markets are essential to the local community both economically and as a venue to buy healthy, local food. It is also an opportunity for shopping while practicing social distancing in a safe, outdoor environment. Guidelines from the CT Department of Agriculture and requirements from the North Central District Health Department will be strictly followed. All customers and vendors will be required to wear masks per Governor Lamont’s executive order.

Preordering is strongly encouraged to limit the amount of time a customer spends at the market. Pre-orders will be ready for pickup at the individual vendors booth. Vendors will be accepting PayPal and Venmo. Customers are encouraged to have the apps downloaded on their cell phones for no touch payment options. Cash payments will be allowed; having exact change would be an incredible help to vendors. A complete list of vendors and links to preordering can be found on the market website at www.ellingtonfarmersmarket.com. Customers can sign up for the market’s newsletter for current information and vendor list at www.ellingtonfarmersmarket.com/newsletter-sign-up

The market’s offerings include: produce, vegetable and flower plants, cut flowers, eggs, dairy products, beef, pork, chicken, seafood, cheese, specialty foods, baked goods, take n’ bake, prepared foods, soaps, bath and body products and household cleaning items. All products are locally grown, produced or hand crafted. The market is seeking volunteers to work at the market on Saturday mornings. Please email ellingtonfarmersmarket@gmail.com if you are able to help. The market plans to move back to Arbor Park when larger gatherings are permitted by the Governor of CT.
