Somers Officials Limit Access to Town Buildings
With Somers among the area towns moving into the coronavirus "red category," officials are limiting access to municipal buildings.

SOMERS, CT — With a marked increase in positive coronavirus tests throughout most of the state, Somers is among numerous communities which have moved into the "red category," prompting town officials to implement some changes regarding municipal buildings.
"The recent spike in the positive cases in Somers and around the state has necessitated the adoption of additional safety measures to mitigate the spread of the virus," First Selectman Bud Knorr said.
Effective Tuesday, access to town buildings is now limited and is by appointment only, according to this information posted on the town's website:

- Town Hall access is by appointment only for those essential services that require face to face contact. Please conduct as much business as possible remotely. There is a drop-box in front of Town Hall, as well as mail-in and on-line options.
- The Senior Center will be available by appointment as well as for essential services and Dial a Ride, with Meals on Wheels and Social Services continuing on a limited basis.
- Social Service offices in Kibbe Fuller are open by advanced appointment only.
- The library will be closed, but curbside pickup will continue with preventative measures.
- Police, fire and public works in-person visits will be by advanced appointment only.
In a memo to town staff members, Knorr wrote, "We are in the process of setting up a drive-thru testing center in cooperation with Priority Urgent Care in Ellington to facilitate timely local testing.".
