Thursday Storms Could Lead to High Winds in Hartford and Tolland Counties

Emergency management officials are urging residents of Hartford and Tolland counties to keep their eyes on the sky Thursday.

A thunderstorm watch is on from 3 p.m. into the evening.

The municipal service WeatherWorks says that scattered strong-to-severe thunderstorms will develop and a few of the storms will be capable of producing "damaging" winds in excess of 60 mph, small

hail, and torrential downpours.

The greatest concern is for the damaging winds, according to the warning.

There is a possibility of "multiple rounds of storms" that could quickly lead to pockets
of poor drainage and street flooding, according to the warning.

The threat for severe weather will wind down this evening, but additional showers and thunderstorms could linger, according to the warning.
