SOMERS, CT — Two people were rescued by firefighters after being trapped on the back deck of a burning house in Somersville Sunday afternoon, and emergency responders from five different towns worked together at the scene, fire officials said.

Around 4:14 p.m., the initial report of a structure fire at 28 Collins Road brought in units from the Hazardville Fire District, Shaker Pines Fire Department and paramedics from the Ambulance Service of Manchester to assist the Somers Fire Department. The initial responder on scene said fire was showing from a bedroom window at the front of the residence, then dispatch reported two occupants were trapped on the back deck. A second alarm brought in units from the Enfield, East Longmeadow and Crystal Lake fire departments, as well as an additional paramedic from Enfield EMS, fire officials said.

The first arriving squad and Hazardville truck company made an aggressive interior attack and rescued the occupants from the deck. The fire was knocked down and was limited to damaging one bedroom and the hallway. The two occupants were transported to Johnson Memorial Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, fire officials said.
