ENFIELD, CT — For the second straight year, the coronavirus pandemic has prompted organizers of the Enfield 4th of July Town Celebration to cancel the 3-day series of festivities on the town green. However, plans are being made for a return of a fireworks extravaganza known as being one of the top shows in New England.

"With ongoing changes to restrictions regarding large capacity public events, we do not feel it is socially responsible, nor financially possible, to yet hold an event of this magnitude," reads an announcement from the committee about the cancellation of live music, demonstrations, craft tables and the Taste of Enfield for 2021. "The committee is once again working with Zambelli Fireworks, to celebrate not only our independence but also all our faithful healthcare workers, first responders and frontline workers who have served us all throughout this very trying time in our country’s history."

The fireworks display will be launched from the Higgins ballfield at the Enfield Town Green on Saturday, July 3 at 9:30 p.m. The committee is seeking help to raise the necessary funds for the fireworks, required permits and insurance, and all other associated costs.

"To help us secure the financial stability needed for the 2021 enhanced fireworks, we are asking you to please consider sponsoring one or more “SHELLs” by making a tax-deductible donation," according to the statement. "The approximate cost for one fireworks shell is $100, but any contribution to make these fireworks a reality is appreciated."
