Brief Yet Powerful Storm Batters North-Central Connecticut
High winds and downpour conditions caused numerous trees to fall, sometimes with accompanying power lines.

HARTFORD/TOLLAND COUNTIES, CT — A brief but significant storm blasted through north-central Connecticut late Wednesday afternoon, with high winds and downpour conditions wreaking havoc with trees and power lines throughout the region.
Numerous road closures were put into effect as trees, sometimes accompanied by wires, fell across streets shortly after 5:30 p.m. A tree fell onto a house on Elm Street in Windsor Locks, several political campaign signs were blown into wooded areas and considerable branch debris was scattered across streets areawide.
Several thousand Eversource customers in Hartford and Tolland counties lost power at their homes or businesses. As of 9:30 p.m., the utility's outage chart showed significant power losses in Granby (961 customers), Stafford (944), East Granby (790), Somers (466), Vernon (336), Enfield (263), Suffield (249), Tolland (205), Willington (201), Union (189) and Ellington (178).
