On Campus - Recent Accomplishments By Enfield College Students

ENFIELD, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Assumption University, Worcester MA

• Assumption University honored 80 students with academic awards for excelling in their individual fields of study. The annual spring Honors Convocation is an opportunity to recognize students who have received one of the University's academic departmental honors, special awards, and Augustine Scholarships. Enfield students included Kennedy O'Hara, Class of 2021, who received the departmental award for honors in Italian, and Noah Veilleux, Class of 2021, who received the Ray Marion Special Award in World History.
• Nearly 400 graduates received a bachelor's degree during Assumption University's 104th Commencement exercises on Sunday, May 9, at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester. Enfield students included Jessica Follo, Kennedy O'Hara, Justin Rankin and Noah Veilleux.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• Five Eastern Connecticut State University students were recently inducted into Alpha Mu Alpha, the national honor society for marketing, on April 15. Among the inductees was Joshua Buvelot of Enfield, a senior majoring in Business Administration. The society, which was established in 1981, recognizes undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students who excel in their studies in the field of marketing. To be inducted, students need to be nominated by the Department of Management and Marketing. Members of AMA receive benefits such as being invited to local chapter events as well as leadership and networking opportunities within the University's chapter.
• Eastern Connecticut State University's Biology Department inducted 20 students into the Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta) National Biology Honor Society on April 30. Among the students inducted was junior McKenna Choiniere of Enfield, who majors in Biology.

Emerson College, Boston MA

• Kayla Randolph of Enfield is among the 2021 Gold Key Honor Society Inductees for the academic year 2020-2021. The Gold Key Honor Society is an interdisciplinary organization founded at Emerson College in 1962 in order to recognize and encourage outstanding academic achievement. Membership in the Society is extended to juniors in the top 5 percent and seniors in the top 10 percent of their class who have earned at least 48 credits at Emerson. Randolph is pursuing a major in Writing, Lit Publishing (4+1) and is a member of the Emerson College Class of 2021.

Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven CT

• The Southern Connecticut State University men's track and field team won its fourth consecutive and 17th overall Northeast 10 Outdoor Championships on May 7. Southern became the first school in NE10 history to eclipse the 300-point mark, as they scored 301.5 points on their way to victory. The previous record was set by the Owls in 2006, when they scored 262.50 points. Southern scored 125.5 more points than second place finisher American International, who scored 176 points. Connor Shannahan of Enfield won the 5,000 meter championship with a time of 14:42.83.
• Senior Jessica Maier of Enfield was named to the 2020 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Senior Team. She is among 38 individuals nominated by their NFHCA member coach and chosen based on their career accomplishments.

Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester NH

• Six students from Enfield were named to the winter 2021 President's List. They are Ashley Brightman, Rahman Aftab, Sandra Coy, Valerie Ludwig, Dylan Coulter and Laura Mason. The winter term runs from January to May. Full-time students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above are named to the President's List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits; undergraduate day students must earn 12 credits in fall or spring semester, and online students must earn 12 credits in either EW1 & EW2, EW3 & EW4, or EW5 & EW6.
• Juliano Cultrera of Enfield has been named to Southern New Hampshire University's winter 2021 Dean's List. Full-time students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 are named to the Dean's List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits; undergraduate day students must earn 12 credits in fall or spring semester, and online students must earn 12 credits in either EW1 & EW2, EW3 & EW4, or EW5 & EW6.

Western New England University, Springfield MA

• Students from Western New England University were welcomed into Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society in a virtual induction ceremony on March 5. Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes the best and brightest members of the nation's first-year college students. The mission of the Society is to encourage superior academic achievement, to promote intelligent living and a high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals in society. Students in Alpha Lambda Delta must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 after their first semester of full-time enrollment. Honorees from Enfield were Danielle Leblanc, working toward a BA in Law & Society; Danielle Orr, working toward a BSBA in Accounting; and Mohammed Younes, working toward a BSBA in International Business.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

• Taylor Nowak of Enfield, a member of the class of 2022 majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), was a member of a student team that recently completed an intense research project titled A Preparatory Course for the Hawai'i Project Center with Hilo Hawaii.
