ENFIELD, CT — Traffic on a portion of Elm Street was detoured through the adjacent Autumn Fields housing complex for several hours after a Monday morning crash of a car into a utility pole in front of the Enfield Police Department.

The crash, which took place around 10:45 a.m., involved a Hyundai sedan driven by Theodore Enos, 54, of Windsor Locks. He was charged with operating under the influence, Lt. Keith Parent said.

Many homes in the area lost power as a result of the crash, as did the police department. Some traffic control signals at intersections between Interstate 91 and Moody Road were also out of operation. Police said intersections with no illuminated traffic controls were to be treated as 4-way stops.
