Enfield Budget Proposal Includes Zero Tax Increase For 2021-22

A spending increase of $7.6 million over the current fiscal year will be offset by a higher grand list, according to the town manager.

ENFIELD, CT — Town Manager Chris Bromson presented a proposed budget of just over $146.5 million for fiscal year 2021-22 to the town council Monday night, an increase of nearly 5.5 percent over the current year. However, homeowners will not face a tax increase.

The budget proposal of $146,541,970 is up more than $7.6 million over the 2020-21 allotment. However, an increase in the grand list would enable the mill rate to remain at 34.23 for the third straight year.

Forty-nine percent of tax dollars are distributed to the Enfield Public Schools, 12 percent to public works and 10 percent to public safety, according to Bromson.

Directors of various town departments will present their budget requests to the council Saturday. A public hearing on the budget has been set for April 14; public comments will be by written testimony only, submitted to PHBudgetComments@enfield.org.

Council deliberations on the budget are slated for April 17, and budget adoption is set for April 19.
