ENFIELD, CT — Despite a forecast of rain lasting until around 8 p.m., Enfield school officials have decided to proceed with Tuesday's graduation rather than postponing it until Wednesday, though they did change the starting time from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In a message sent Monday afternoon to graduates and their families, Superintendent of Schools Chris Drezek said, "The latest forecast shows a line of storms exiting the Enfield area in the 7:00-8:00 pm timeframe, which would be directly during our ceremony. I’m hopeful that the forecast will change, or this line of storms will speed up, and we can go on as planned. However, I wanted to give everyone a heads up that since moving the ceremony indoors is not possible this year, it is possible that we will have to postpone our graduation ceremony to Wednesday the 23rd if the forecast doesn’t change."

However, in somewhat of a reversal, Drezek sent the following message Tuesday afternoon:

"Our graduation ceremony will take place this evening, however due to the forecast we are going to move the starting time from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. I want to make sure everyone is aware that there may still be some lingering rain at the beginning of the ceremony, but I’ve been told this system will clear around 8:00. I realize this is a bit late for some, but our seniors deserve to have their ceremony on its scheduled day. With prom last night and Safe Grad tonight, having our seniors come back tomorrow after two events that lasted through the night is not fair to them, so we are going to move the time to give these kids the ceremony they deserve."

The ceremony is slated to take place on Cookie Bromage Field at the Carl Angelica Memorial Stadium.
