Enfield Police Caution Residents About Telephone Scam
A person claiming to be a detective has called people telling them to buy gift cards to pay fines for failing to respond to subpoenas.

ENFIELD, CT — Police have issued a warning to residents to be aware of a scam which involves someone impersonating a detective.
Police said the person is "spoofing" the department's main telephone number, and claiming the person being called failed to respond to a subpoena. In a case reported to police, the call recipient was told to purchase gift cards to pay a fine.
"Enfield PD (and no law enforcement for that matter) will accept gift cards in any form as payment for anything. If you receive this call, please just hang up," according to the department's social media pages.
