ENFIELD, CT — A natural gas line was accidentally ruptured by construction workers on Mountain View Ave. and Enfield Street early Monday afternoon, prompting a brief evacuation of nearby homes and the closure of Route 5 for nearly an hour.

The incident occurred shortly after 12:15 p.m. and caused traffic to be detoured down High Street from the north and Franklin Street from the south until Eversource could secure the leak.

The Thompsonville Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from North Thompsonville, which helped with metering and ensuring the houses in the general area were evacuated, Thompsonville Fire Chief David Deskis said.
