ENFIELD, CT — Friday's torrential rainfall posed a number of problems for drivers and residents around Enfield, as a number of road closures went into effect due to flooding, according to police.

Some customary problem areas were still closed to traffic Saturday morning, including Cranbrook Boulevard, a short business-laden cut-through between Freshwater Boulevard and Palomba Drive. Other affected areas include the bowl-like junction of John and Meadow streets, and the access road on the south side of Enfield Square.

The roadways were re-opened by mid-afternoon Saturday.

On Friday, closures had been put into effect on Post Office and Post, Glenwood, Ernest and Pierce, Southwood and Beech, Lt. Bryan Nolan said. All had been re-opened by Saturday morning.

Freshwater Brook spilled way beyond its banks, prompting service from the fire department and evacuation of several homes on Lynch Terrace Friday night, according to neighbor Sam Caldwell.
