A recent trip to a Hidden Gem on the northern border of the state yielded a number of actual ... hidden gems.

ENFIELD, CT — Our latest excursion to a Hidden Gem takes us to a spot where you can actually find hidden gems: Southwood Antiques & Marketplace, in a small strip plaza at 89 Raffia Rd. in Enfield.

Whether it's three bucks for a Kennebunk, Maine fire department shoulder patch, or $1,500 for a restored Chrysler pedal car from the 1940s, you'll find a little bit of everything at this 3,000 square foot collaborative of dozens of antique, collectible and vintage vendors. Inventory changes constantly, so you never know what treasures you will find, no matter how many times you visit.

A recent tour through the shop revealed an antique baby carriage, record albums (remember those?), vintage furniture, a Dennis the Menace lunchbox, jewelry, Christmas figurines, clocks, books, tools and literally hundreds of assorted items of all ages. Being a hockey announcer, my personal favorite is the Gordie Howe Hartford Whalers bobblehead (which actually looks more like Harry Belafonte, but what can ya do?).
