ENFIELD, CT — A convicted felon with a lengthy criminal record over the past eight years, including four pending cases, was arrested Tuesday night on a warrant, and was in possession of a knife on his person while struggling with police, Chief Alaric Fox said.

Joshua Jurovaty, 28, was spotted by police at the T'ville Food Mart on Pearl St. around 8:20 p.m. Knowing of an outstanding warrant against Jurovaty for four violations of a protective order, officers attempted to take him into custody, but he resisted arrest and struggled to break free, Fox said.

During a struggle, police noticed a black Smith & Wesson Extreme Ops pocket knife clipped to the front of Jurovaty's waistband. At one point, he reached his hand toward his waist, and was brought to the ground to keep him from grabbing the weapon, Fox said.

He was charged with criminal attempt to commit second-degree assault and interfering with an officer, as well as violation of a protective order from the initial warrant. He was held overnight in lieu of bonds totaling $100,000, Fox said.

Jurovaty has been convicted seven times since 2013 on charges including sale of narcotics, carrying a pistol without a permit and interfering with police. He has four cases pending in court, for crimes ranging from assault and strangulation to interfering with police and unlawful restraint. He had been free on bonds totaling $30,050 prior to Tuesday's arrest, according to judicial records.
